Who We Are

Our Identity

When people are given creative spaces to participate, learn and reflect, they develop the agency to act — and collective action can create lasting change in communities.

Ex-TRA – An Organisation is a practice-based non-profit institution working across the interconnected domains of theatre, arts and education.

Through creative practice, participatory learning, research and collaboration, we work to strengthen creativity, constitutional values and community participation.

Founded in 2002 as a collective of theatre practitioners, educators and community change-makers, Ex-TRA was formally registered as a non-profit organisation in 2007. Over the years, Ex-TRA has received support from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, through its cultural programmes and grant schemes.

Today, we collaborate with artists, educators, institutions, governments, civil society organisations and communities to co-create meaningful learning and cultural spaces.

We believe that theatre is more than performance, arts are more than expression, and education is more than the transmission of knowledge. Together, they can become powerful public resources for nurturing creativity, critical thinking, agency, participation and a more just, equitable and democratic society.
